Beverly Hills, 7 April 2017 – The 12th annual South East European Film Festival (SEEfest) (seefilmla.org) selected Montreal’s Grand Prix of Americas and Santa Barbara’s Best International Feature Film
Winner, The Constitution by Croatian director Rajko Grlić to open 2017 Festival with a gala event on Thursday, April 27, at 7:00PM at the Writers Guild Theater theater in Beverly Hills.
“Such an excellent and timely film as The Constitution does not come by every year,” said Vera Mijojlić, founder and director of SEEfest. “It is an example of a great director-writer pairing between Grlić and author Ante Tomić, whose humorous political columns delight and entertain readers throughout the Balkans. With three amazing actors from Serbia and Croatia this very funny and poignant ‘love story about hate’ is sure to delight Angeleno audiences as well.”
Other program highlights include world premiere of Roza of Smyrna, Greeklove story spanning turbulent Greek-Turkish history of the 20th century; Romanian drama about journalistic conscience in the ultra-competitive media world The Fixer by Adrian Sitaru; delightful music documentary Balkan Roots by Australian pair Chris Rabbitt and Anthony Fletcher; enchanting Moldovan beauty of Anishoara by Ana-Felicia Scutelnicu; Bulgaria’s Glory by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, the duo behind last year’s international winner, The Lesson; spirited Balkan road mockumentary King of the Belgians by Peter Brosens and Jessica Hope Woodworth; delicious travelogue about food The Turkish Way by Luis González; Romanian road trip into 1968 That Trip We Took with Dad by Anca Lazarescu; Swedish-Bosnian father-daughter trip into another past My Aunt in Sarajevo by Goran Kapetanović, winner of Best Swedish Director award; two stunning animation shorts by Bulgarian expats in Canada and U.S., Oscar-nominated Blind Vaysha by Theodore Ushev and Flutter by Vladimir Todorov, and a special screening of the opulent Austrian period piece Hotel Sacher, as delicious as the famous sacher torte dessert.

Eight-day long SEEfest 2017 runs April 27 – May 4, and includes 12 features, 8 documentaries, 1 special out-of-competition screening, and 36 shorts films (short features, short docs, and animation shorts). Festival audience comprises filmmakers and international art house aficionados, industry professionals and cultural dignitaries from Los Angeles and South East Europe. Screenings are held at the Writers Guild Theater and Laemmle Music Hall in Beverly Hills, the Goethe-Institut in Miracle Mile area and West Hollywood Council Chambers @ Library campus.
